Our roasters
A Copenhagen roaster combining precise coffee preparation with long-term, farmer-led sourcing relationships.

The roastery
april Coffee Roasters was founded in Copenhagen in 2016 by Patrik Rolf. Patrik is from Gothenburg, where he began his coffee career at da Matteo, and he later worked as head roaster at Five Elephant in Berlin before moving to Copenhagen to start his own roastery.
Patrik is also known from the competition stage. He finished second at the World Brewers Cup in 2019 and has reached the final of the World Barista Championship. april began as a company focused entirely on roasting. Today it also runs two stores in the heart of Copenhagen, while the roasting takes place in Solrød Strand, just south of the city.

01
april describes its aim as progressing the way coffee is roasted. The approach is controlled and product-focused, with close attention to the roasting equipment, clean systems and continuous learning. The goal is coffee that is sweet, transparent and aromatic. They mainly buy washed and natural coffees that highlight origin, terroir and variety.
The same thinking applies to sourcing. april buys through direct partnerships with a small number of farmers and says it is looking for better coffee, not cheaper coffee. According to april, its partner farmers set the price of their own coffee.
02
april’s coffees tend to be precise and clear rather than loud, with sweetness at the centre and aromatics that develop as the cup cools. Because the roasting aims to show each lot rather than impose a house style, differences between origins and producers come through clearly. april roasts for both filter and espresso.
03
april describes its goal as coffee in which you can taste the terroir, which is also the idea behind TERROIR’s name. We chose april for that focus: coffees that let origin and producer come through clearly, roasted with great precision. Within our collection, april stands for clarity and restraint, and shows how much detail a light roast can carry.
04
Coffee competitions are usually associated with baristas, but for april they are also connected to roasting. Patrik has competed at world level, and the same discipline is visible in the everyday range: a focused selection of carefully developed coffees, simple packaging and concise information. Attention stays on the coffee and the farm it came from.
